DG SCOTT ELECTRICAL
Sector: Electrical Design and Installation
Support provided: Tender readiness review and DPS application management
The challenge
DG Scott Electrical Contractors knew public-sector work represented a significant growth opportunity but had never fully addressed it. The procurement process felt unclear, time-consuming and difficult to prioritise alongside day-to-day operations.
As a result, access to council, education and NHS work was limited, with most public-sector projects secured indirectly via Tier 1 contractors or through smaller local contracts.
They recognised that continuing to delay public-sector access would limit future growth.
The approach
Rather than focusing on last-minute bid writing, I started with a full tender-readiness review, ensuring the right foundations were in place before any submission.
This included putting compliant policies, procedures, case studies and CVs in place and aligning everything with what public-sector buyers actually look for.
Once tender ready, I managed the YPO Low Energy Lighting Systems DPS application end-to-end, leading and structuring the process, managing compliance and actively chasing information to maintain momentum. DG Scott’s involvement was kept to a minimum.
The outcome
DG Scott were successfully appointed to the YPO Low Energy Lighting Systems Dynamic Purchasing Scheme, covering external and emergency lighting.
They are now able to respond quickly and confidently to opportunities as they arise, without scrambling for documents or disrupting day-to-day operations.
This work has:
※unlocked direct access to public-sector buyers
※reduced reliance on Tier 1 contractors
※improved confidence and internal readiness
※removed the stress of reactive bidding
This type of support is best suited to busy SMEs and contractors who know public-sector work is an opportunity but don’t have the time, appetite or in-house bid teams to manage procurement themselves.
